| Are turkey poults hard to raise? |
|
Baby poults need just a little more mothering in their first few days. If you ensure each one eats and drinks, marking them as they do so none are missed, and keep them cozy for the first week, deaths during brooding are very rare, and they can be brooded just like chicks with a heat lamp thereafter. If you brood them in cardboard boxes initially, be ready for them to begin flying several feet in the air at 10 days. Net the box, and give them tiny roosts! And enjoy them, they are much more trusting than chicks, and seem to enjoy handling and interaction, which will make them calm and laid back as they grow. |
