2012 Hatching Season: e-mail orders will be welcome after 1 Feb. This year again I will be asking those who wish chicks to grow out for market, or who are potential breeders of the Chantecler chicken, to commit to taking one or more full hatch trays directly from the incubators. Chanteclers will be available only by the full hatch, set to order, and any over 40 are leaving as freebies, so I won't have a predictable stock of Chantecler chicks for "samplers". They go all over Ontario, so I may know someone near you who may have Chanteclers to share. Ducklings, goslings and turkey poults may be ordered in any quantity, singles to full hatches. Straight run (unsexed) only. DAY-OLD PRICE LIST: Pedigreed Beltsville Small White Turkey Poults Saxony,Silver Appleyard,Welsh Harlequin, Khaki Campbell, Buff Orpington and "Golden 300* Layer" Ducklings: all $7ea., straight run.
New Breeder Special (ducks or turkeys): for a full hatch (30+ babies) set to order with $50.00 deposit, and picked up (promptly please) at the farm. $6ea. Std. White Chanteclers $5ea, but only by the full hatch, usually 36 or more chicks, by advance order with $50 deposit. An order of 30-40 birds is the minimum to have sufficient genetic diversity to begin a new breeding flock, and to allow effective culling for improvement. Plain-headed Roman Goslings $12ea., sex-able (>80%) Grey Saddleback Pomeranian goslings from Holderreads German and American show stock: $20 each
HATCHING EGGS: Duck and (pedigreed) BSW turkey eggs: $75/16 eggs, including mailer,+ courier shipping from N4K 1A5 to your postal code) Chantecler eggs: $125/36 eggs including mailer, + courier shipping as above) Hatching eggs travel by Canada Post "overnight courier" or competitor in a 12x12x6" foam-lined box weighing less than 5 lbs., which costs an additional $25-100 dollars depending on parcel size and distance. Eggs can only be guaranteed to be from fertile matings, and will be shipped only on a Monday or Tuesday and should reach your Canada Post Office within 5-7 days of laying. Because of the expense and emotional investment, please request shipping of hatching eggs only if you are at a great distance with no alternative and have both experience and an electronic incubator. Eggs are sold and shipped entirely at the purchasers risk, paid in full in advance through PayPal. Thank you for caring and sharing rare breeds. *Golden 300 Layer duck is a modern layer breed developed by Metzer Waterfowl Farms in California, which was bred to lay up to 300 eggs per year, while finishing a respectable 4 lb carcass. An ideal dual-purpose breed, in white.
When you visit Cirrus Hill Farm, you might like to know: Cirrus Hill Farm is in Ontario's "ski country", on the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Georgian Bay. The scenery alone is worth the trip, and there are lots of outdoor activities to enjoy. Consider making it a family outing and picking up your birds on the way home. Please Note: Children are always welcome and enjoy visiting, but must not chase the birds, or you will be asked to confine them in your car. You will be expected to purchase any bird your dog may kill or injure. If you arrive to find birds on the laneway, just creep forward, they will stay out from under your wheels. Those birds who approach you are just friendly, though the turkeys have been known to pull exposed cellphones and keys from pockets. If your pet travels with you, please warn me in advance, and ensure he does not leave your vehicle unless leashed and controlled by an adult at all times. Few dogs are prepared for the excitement of a free-range poultry farm and even the gentlest pet may lose his self control. Water and walkies after a long trip will be provided for canine guests in a safe area. Pick-up of fertile eggs and young birds at the farm is by appointment only. Travel directions to our home and contact numbers will be provided. Please come prepared with suitable transport containers for your little birds, and prepare your brooder and obtain a supply of unmedicated chick or duck starter feed before you leave home.
We (the birds and I) look forward to meeting you!
